Uni student stabbed at Brisbane bus stop

A university student is in intensive care in a Brisbane hospital after being stabbed in the chest at a bus stop.

A police spokesman said the 18-year-old caught a bus home from the city on Tuesday night and got off at a stop on Mains Road near the intersection of Turton Street at Sunnybank, in Brisbane's south, around 9.30pm (AEST).

He began walking the short distance to his home but was approached by an offender who demanded he hand over his wallet.

It's alleged the student refused and the offender stabbed him once in the chest before running away empty-handed.


The victim managed to make his way home and family members took him to hospital.

He underwent emergency surgery in the Princess Alexandra Hospital and is in the intensive care unit.

Police do not have any description of the offender but have urged anyone in the vicinity of Mains Road about 9.30pm on Tuesday to contact them.
